Southern Barbecue Championship and Bluegrass Festival
The Southern BBQ and Bluegrass Festival takes place in Charleston every Labor Day weekend to not only close out the summer in style, but also to find the best plate of barbecue in the city! Several professional teams face off to see who will be the master of their grill and walk away with the coveted champion title. In addition to this pro event, there is an amateur competition, lots of great family-friendly and kid-friendly fun, as well as the best bluegrass music you've ever heard!

Scottish Games and Highland Gathering
Every September, the Scottish Games and Highland Gathering takes place to celebrate all things Scottish and Celtic. The unmistakable sound of bagpipes as well as drumming and Highland dancing are a constant feature of the festivities. In addition to being able to sample some traditional cuisine, you'll be able to enjoy a Border Collie demonstration, Scottish fiddling, and children's games, too. In other words, this is a great time for the whole family!

Charleston Beach Music and Shag Festival
Beach music is a sub-genre of rock and roll that influenced the sound of early 60s music, and its origins were right here along the South Carolina coast. That's why the Charleston Beach Music and Shag Festival brings back so many good-time memories. Enjoy dance lessons, top live bands that include such well-known acts as the Fantastic Shakers and Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs. Daytime events are scheduled at the Citadel Alumni House and continue into the night with music and dancing at J.B. Pivot's. The event is scheduled yearly in the latter part of August or early September.

MOJA Festival
Charleston's MOJA Festival is held every September and is a celebration that embraces the city's African and Caribbean heritage. The word "moja" is Swahili for "unity." That spirit of oneness is alive and well all throughout this family-friendly festival that not only offers an opportunity to learn about the deeply diverse African and Caribbean cultures, but you'll also be able to take in concerts, recitals, and other performances at venues throughout the city. And don't forget to sample the delicious selection of native dishes and delicacies, too.

Charleston's Green Fair
Charleston's Green Fair, held every fall, is the city's way of protecting its environment by teaching and entertaining attendees about the various ways they can "go green" and preserve our natural resources. This green festival is designed to appeal to the entire family, with lots of great displays and free goodies, plus plenty of activities planned throughout the course of the fair. Mount Pleasant Children's Day Festival
The Mount Pleasant Children's Day Festival is a day-long celebration of children and all the fun that goes with them! The kids can enjoy everything from jump castles, clowns, pony rides, climbing walls as well as lots of great food. The event is coordinated by the Mount Pleasant Recreation Department to help raise money for local PTAs. The fest is so popular that it attracts thousands of visitors from all across the South Carolina Lowcountry, so make plans to be there for all the fun.
